  • Just a little frightened

It’s neat getting home and finding one of these inside the curtain. We get them outside from time to time, but I’m not sure how this one found its way in. We probably left a window open, and once inside I guess this was the closest thing it could find to an old damp tree-stump.

It seems they can pinch very noticeably when they’re crawling over your skin, or maybe it was just surprised at my waking it up to get it outside.

  • And just when you’re trying to be helpful

I found a small insect on the wall yesterday, which is one of not many that we’ve had in this flat. It probably means it’s getting warmer.  I’m not good on my insects, but this one looked like an underweight daddy-long-legs with only six legs and wings.

I picked it up and dropped it out the window, at which point it promptly fell into a spider’s web under the window sill. Within three seconds, a spider had jumped out from nowhere and was attacking it. It was quite interesting to watch, since I’m not sure I’ve really seen a spider attack that quickly before. I guess if I wanted to be helpful, I was at least helping out the spider.

In any case, it’s back to the Rimutakas again tomorrow. We’re going for a walk up Mt McKerrow.
