  • Trip: Cattle Creek Hut

    Windy windy windy.

    Dates: 17th – 19th August, 2007
    Location: Ruahine Forest Park
    Huts visited: Stanfield Hut (0 nights), Cattle Creek Hut (1 night).
    People: Darren, Alex, Clinton, Matt, Michael, Patrick and Meeeee.

    I think I probably ate something bad for lunch on the Friday that we left. All of that afternoon I had a headache, and this became a bit more of an issue when I got sick at 10.30pm Friday night after setting up my tent fly in the campground 200 metres from the Tamaki West road-end. Fortunately for me, though, I began to feel quite a lot better after that.

  • Trip: Parks Peak / Upper Makaroro

    Dates: 2nd – 4th March, 2007
    Location: Ruahine Forest Park
    Huts visited: Sentry Box Hut (1 night), Parks Peak Hut (0 nights), Upper Makaroro Hut (1 night).
    Huts seen: Kylie Biv (from the opposite ridge).

    We arrived quite late on Friday night, for a 10 minute walk into Sentry Box Hut, where there were already a couple of people. There was limited space, so Craig and Sam went outside under Craig’s tent fly, whilst everyone else found space indoors. (I think there were about three people on the floor.)

  • Trip: Longview / Awatere Huts

    Dates: 17th – 19th November, 2006
    Location: Ruahine Forest Park
    Huts visited: Longview Hut (1 night), Awatere Hut (0 nights)

    This was a WTMC easy-medium-rated trip. We were originally supposed to get to Top Gorge hut (via Longview), but the weather caved in too much for us to easily get to Top Gorge. Instead, we stayed overnight at Longview and went for a series of walks.
